It's been a while since I've seen it... like 20 years... but the kid was playing Rad Racer with the Power Glove, not Pole Position.
Also, I had a Power Glove and Rad Racer (still have the game) and there was a position-sensing capability. Nothing near as good as a Wiimote, but for the best performance from Rad Racer, you'd have to mimic your hand on a steering wheel while you played it.
